Herman Leonard has led a remarkable life. It is shaped by his fascination with the camera, a contagious zest for life, and his abiding love of jazz music. Notes Tony Bennett, "He's got this passion for photography ... no one photographs better than Herman Leonard." We agree.
Herman Leonard has led a remarkable life. It is shaped by his fascination with the camera, a contagious zest for life, and his abiding love of jazz music. Notes Tony Bennett, "He's got this passion for photography ... no one photographs better than Herman Leonard." We agree. In frame after frame one cannot help but be struck by the "moment of truth" he captures. Indeed, he is perhaps the most gifted Jazz photographer of our time. He has photographed every towering jazz immortal, from Louis Armstrong and Billy Holiday to Sarah Vaughn and Duke Ellington. You can see his work at the Smithsonian, the White House and, yes, International House. Though Herman has lived all over the world, from Paris to Ibiza to Greenwich Village, he chooses to live in New Orleans because, as he says fondly, "New Orleans, with its people, culture, architecture and vibrant music scene, embraces me like I was born here."
As Herman often writes, "Enjoy the music.", and pleasant dreams.
