Remarkably pleasant, soothing spaces in which to relax, sleep and work, each guestroom at International House celebrates contemporary New Orleans style.
The distinctive feature in this suite, in addition to loft-like living space, is the bathroom. It affords the longest vanity and largest glass shower in the hotel. The alluring composition of elongated granite vanity, elegant beveled mirror and lighting draped with strands of cascading Swarovski crystals adds a compelling element of sophistication to this space. Recently renovated by Los Angeles-based designer LM Pagano, this suite reflects Pagano's self-defined style: "... pristine but tattered grace, coupled with unexpected moments that radiate this city's unique sense of time and place." Tapping the skilled artisans in her native City of Angels and her adopted Crescent City, Pagano hired the gifted Erica Larken to make totem-inspired cafe tables and Gabriel Victor to fabricate a Pagan Cross console, topped with honed Calcutta gold marble. Sharp Aquos flat-screens and iPod players add modern electronics to the suite. A generous "living room" includes a second LCD screen, two crystal chandeliers and a remarkably deep, plush sofa chock-full of throw pillows. A 5' x 8' mirror helps animate the room, and the large California King bed, with its 7' tufted headboard, matching base, layers of white linen and white Modern Fan Company "Flute" fan rotating above, completes this suite.
Two uncommon features of this suite are the hotel's only Kohler enameled cast iron Comfort Depth® soaking tub and a window-wall coupled with a limestone window-seat that draws guests into the cosmopolitan life of the street corner. "Like New Orleans, the design in the suites and penthouses is eclectic, says owner Sean Cummings." Deep plush sofa. Tall hammered-nickel lamps with pleated, white, linen shades. Objects bought. Antiqued velvet. Ruined finery. Oversized mirrors. Ecclesiastical symbols. Crystal chandelier. Apple TV. Wrought iron. Objects found. Copper. Aveda. Custom closet. Honed Calcutta gold marble. Smart Water. Layers and layers of white on white bedding. The gifted Herman Leonard's black and whites. Two Sharp Aquos flat-screens. An iPod player. A favorite for privacy, romance and passion, the space feels much like a cosmopolitan apartment.
